2025 SEASON
Legendary Kronos Quartet joins The Next Festival of Emerging Artists for concerts at PS 21 (Chatham, NY) and New York City’s Merkin Hall.
Multi-GRAMMY-winning Kronos Quartet, which “has broken the boundaries of what string quartets can do” (The New York Times), joins The Next Festival of Emerging Artists for a special celebration of Terry Riley’s 90th birthday and a program featuring world premieres by some of today’s most adventurous voices. Join us as Founding Artistic Director Peter Askim leads a string orchestra of gifted early-career string players in Riley’s The Sands (composed for Kronos) and the world premieres of Jungyoon Wie’s Starlings, inti figgis-vizueta’s music by yourself for string orchestra, and Askim’s own new work, Songs My Mother Taught Me. The program also includes GRAMMY-winning composer Pascal Le Boeuf’s kinetic Transition Behavior and Serenade for Strings by Jan Radzyknski.

The second week of the festival, based in NYC, is centered on collaboration and creation. Both the Composer Workshop led by Pulitzer and GRAMMY-winning Aaron Kernis and the Composer/Choreographer Workshop with choreographer mentor Sidra Bell provide early-career creators the opportunity to develop exciting new work in collaboration with our string fellows. RSVP for a free showing on June 18 featuring discipline-crossing works-in-progress and world premieres of new compositions by our composer fellows.
