Held on the grounds of Music Mountain, the oldest continuous chamber music festival in the country, the Next Festival combines intense musical study and performance at the highest level. It brings together young artists, aged 18-30, from the best music schools and conservatories in the country to work in a highly individualized and inspirational atmosphere.
The festival is deeply committed to helping the artists of tomorrow progress to the next step in their careers and to forge their own unique musical identities. Generous scholarships enable students to attend, regardless of financial circumstances. Artistic Director Peter Askim works closely with the students to tailor a program focused on their individual goals, cultivating a spirit of imagination and exploration. The Next Festival’s small size means that the focus is completely on the students.
We emphasize entrepreneurial thinking in imagining a career in today’s shifting musical landscape, bringing some of today’s most innovative and exciting music professionals to work side-by-side with our students. We are proud to have former Kronos Quartet cellist Jeffrey Zeigler as our 2015 Guest Artist, performing with the students in a program of American and World Premieres.
We help our students grow as musicians and reconnect with the joy of making music, away from the academic demands and financial pressures they might encounter during the school year. Your contribution helps support this vitally important mission.
